Muscat (Oman) 21 December 2016: The 27th graduation ceremony of the Sultan Qaboos University, Oman was a feast for eyes when all 1503 students gathered together at graduation ceremony hall wearing the purple gown.
Literally, the function was a “calling together, with degree candidates and their families, and friends, the faculty, the deans, the officers of the University gathered together. The ceremony marked the graduation of the 8th batch of PhD graduates, the 21st batch of master’s degree holders, and the 27th batch of bachelor’s degree holders.
From the College of Arts & Social Sciences, there were 519 graduates, including 71 masters and six PhD graduates. The College of Economics and Political Science had 349 students, including 33 master’s graduates, and the College of Education had 476, including 137 master’s graduates. With this graduation ceremony, the total number of graduates produced by the university since its inception reaches 49,560.The entire function was held under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Salmi, Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs.
Abdullah Bin Mahmood Al Hinai from the College of Economics and Political Science was selected to participate in the X-Cultural conference. He was selected as one of the best 50 students out of the 3000 from 40 countries around the world.
Dr Imad Farouk Saleh, from the College of Arts and Social Sciences, bagged the Outstanding Scientist Award in Social Work, from the Venus International Foundation in Chennai, India. He received the best paper award at the Bali International Conference on Business, Economics, Social Science & Humanities held in Indonesia.
Dr Khaldon Nursair from the College of Economics and Political Science got the Citation of Excellence Award by Emerald Group Publishing, United Kingdom. Dr Muna Ayed Al Awadi from the College of Education won the ninth version of Khalifa Award for Education in the field of General Education Research. Dr Hussein bin Ali Al Kharousi got the Distinguished Scientist Award in Measurement and Evaluation for 2015, Venus International Foundation, India. He won the International Award for Teaching Excellence, from the Indus Foundation, which was granted on the agenda of the American Indian Summit for Education 2016.
Dr Ibrahim Bin Sultan Al Harthi received Research Excellence Award 2106 from Clute Foundation, the US. Dr Raiya Salem Al Mundhiri got the National Prize for Scientific Research for Education and Human Resources Sector, PhDs category, in the 3rd Annual Forum for Researchers, which was organised by TRC.
The Vice Chancellor said the total number of scientific publications produced by the university since its inception has reached 8,594.
